With grateful thanks to our many supporters, we have established a Community Garden on a plot of land behind Ison House, behind Mambourin Sensory Gardens
Throughout Winter our keen gardeners have been adding manure, compost and mulch to the beds. The tiller machine has been put to great use to turn over the soil and mix in the composted materials. The glasshouse is being utilised to grow early seedlings, and we are now planting out our new crops of tomatoes, lettuces, soybeans, rocket, and beetroot.
We have a regular Working Bee in the garden each Wednesday morning, starting at 9.00 am.
Experimentation is underway with a couple of Wicking beds and Hugel Kulture vegetable beds. Well done to Ray!!
The Horn of Africa Community Network have been very busy creating wicking beds from IBC containers. These will very soon be planted out by members of the African Community. We hope that the beds wil require less watering and produce good crops of various vegetables to be enjoyed by all. An excellent effort from Behru and his workers!
Entry to the garden is via the cyclone fence gate in Walls Road!
New gardeners and visitors are most welcome!
We are very grateful for the valuable assistance given to us from:
